Heliconias Rainforest Lodge protects one of the finest examples of primary forest in the Bijagua area. Its network of hanging bridges lets you walk right through the canopy and see the rainforest from a perspective few visitors ever get.

Over three hours, we combine the hanging bridges with the forest trails beneath them, so you have time to explore the rainforest at every level, from the forest floor to the treetops. Old-growth forest like this supports species that are not found in younger, disturbed habitats, which makes Heliconias one of the best places in the region to look for them.

The specialties here include some of Costa Rica's most sought-after birds: the tiny Tody Motmot calling from wet ravines, the secretive Yellow-eared Toucanet moving through the canopy and the elusive Black-eared Wood-Quail on the forest floor. Your local guide, a certified naturalist, knows where and when to look for each of them.

Every tour is private, so we go at your pace and answer every question. It suits keen birders hoping to add forest specialties to their list, and nature lovers who simply want to experience a primary forest from the canopy down.
