What to Expect on a Night Tour in Bijagua

When the sun goes down, a whole new cast of animals wakes up. Here is what a night walk in Bijagua is like and how to get ready for it.

The forests around Bijagua feel like a different place after dark. Birds go quiet, frogs start calling and animals you would never notice by day come out to feed. A guided night walk is one of the most memorable ways to experience the rainforest, and it is easier than many people expect, even with kids.

Two ways to explore after dark

We offer two night tours, so you can pick the one that fits your group:

  • Night Nature Tour: an easy, family-friendly 2-hour walk near Bijagua to look for sloths, snakes and frogs. It is a great first night tour for beginners and children.
  • Tapir Valley Night Tour: a night outing in Tapir Valley to discover nocturnal creatures and the valley's nighttime ecosystem.

You can compare both, along with our daytime outings, on the Tours page.

What you might see

Night is when frogs steal the show. Bright tree frogs, tiny glass frogs and the famous red-eyed tree frog can be found resting on leaves and branches. Sloths may be out and about, and your guide may find snakes coiled quietly in the vegetation.

Wildlife is always wild, so no sighting is guaranteed. What you can count on is a local guide who is a certified naturalist and knows how to search the forest at night. They will point out animals, explain what each one is doing and keep everyone at a safe, respectful distance, especially around snakes.

How to get ready

A little preparation makes the evening more comfortable:

  • Wear closed shoes with good grip, since trails can be damp.
  • Long pants and a light layer help with insects and cooler air.
  • A small flashlight or headlamp can be handy for your own footing.
  • Keep voices low and move slowly so you hear and see more.
  • Ask before using a camera flash so animals are not disturbed.

Because every tour is private, the pace is set by your group. Little ones can take breaks, photographers can take their time and every question gets an answer. For more practical details, visit our FAQ.
